- Serve You's Step Therapy Program helps to contain costs by requiring within selected therapeutic classes that members try a lower-cost alternative medication before using a more expensive drug. With most Step Therapy modules, a brand medication will not be covered until a less expensive generic medication in the same therapeutic class is tried first.
- Step Therapy modules are approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee and are based on industry best practices as well as information obtained from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), medical literature, drug manufacturers, and other sources.
